Duty To Manage
South Wales, Newport, Cardiff

The company, which was started by Richard Long, has worked with Cynon Taf and its predecessors for 15 years. Long was later joined at the helm by his brother Owen and the two men, who are both from a trade background, have overseen the company’s growth.

RJ Environmental Services has come a long way since those early days and is now keen to extend its client base and share its expertise with other organisations in the social housing sector as we are now approved housing association building contractors.

“Over the years we have progressed from little bitty jobs to this kind of work,” says Long. “We get good feedback from tenants when we carry out work in their homes and that is why we have progressed the way that we have. We have built up a good reputation for ourselves and Cynon Taf like to work with companies that are reliable, that won’t create problems for them.”

Creating a good impression and considering tenants’ needs is important to RJ Environmental Services and that extends to any sub contractors that the company employs. “We use regular sub-contractors,” says Long. “And we like to use contractors who will do a good job for us and we are achieving that.”

“We are a multi-disciplined company,” says Long. “All 10 of our staff are trained in all aspects of the business including asbestos removal.” For example, sometimes asbestos in Artex ceilings can be found, as in the past small amounts of the substance were at times added to the material to improve strength.
